We Have Something In Common, Akpabio Tells Davido

President Bola Tinubu’s government has something in common with the Nigerian music industry - both cater for Nigerians across party lines! That was the message of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio to Davido, the Afrobeat Star, who paid him a courtesy visit on May 19, 2024. Akpabio told the music star, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke: "For me and for the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, its an inclusive administration, and you must have noticed in my various outings, we move as one, across party lines. "Even though your administration is a PDP one but we work across party lines for the interest of Nigeria. The only major thing that is common to all of us is the interest of this country and it is a country that has given you so much love”. While advising Davido to avoid being dragged into politics, he promised that the lawmakers will do everything possible to support the talent industry. "Please do your best to continue to maintain the high e...

FEMI ADESINA AT UYO BOOK CLUB!

It was an exciting evening of literati on April 27, 2024, when Mr Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s former Spokesman, read sections of his new book, ‘Working with Buhari’, at Uyo Book Club.

I’m glad I was there!

Writen in Adesina’s traditional simple style, the book is a distillation and documentation of some “soft” moments  and events that happened during his sojourn in Aso Rock.

Adesina was the pioneer editor of Daily Sun newspaper. Infact, he was the one who interviewed me in 2003, when I went to the Sun Publishing Company for a job. He took one look at me and said: “Usoro, we are not really going to interview you. We know you, already. Just go and bring some of your published articles”.

As I left his office that day, I met Mr Steve Nwosu, another wonderful editor, humourist and friend. “What are you doing here”, he asked me, smiling. When I told him I was looking for a job, he said: “I want you to come and work with me. I want you to be my deputy. Let me go and see Femi!”

The kind gentlemen, at the Board of Editors, agreed to give me an opportiny to float a column. That gave birth to my popular satirical column, THE REALITY, which helped to sell copies of the Saturday Sun in millions.

Till date, many still ask after that column and I have decided to revive it in a blog form, soon!

When I left the Sun Newspaper in 2007, to pick an appointment as Governor Godswill Akpabio’s Chief Press Secretary, I didn’t say goodbye to Adesina. In fact, he had the unsolicited task of answering questions from hundreds of my fans, who kept asking why I was no longer writing.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to say, “thank you!” to my former boss and Editor, Femi Adesina.

A LADY WHO MARRIED HERSELF ACCUSED OF CHEATING!

A young lady who married herself last year in my village has been accused of cheating! After waiting endlessly for a suitor,  Miss Ama Idem Ikpong, married herself in October, 2023, at a solemn but solitary ceremony that cost a “whopping” N1,500. Before the glamorous wedding, which she planned alone, Miss Ama Idem Ikpong was often seen taking herself out to eateries, sit-outs, clubs, etc, always in company of herself.  However, at a point in the relationship, she stopped frequent public outings and drinking and later told one reporter that she loved spending  “a lot of quality time” with herself.  In an interview after the wedding, Miss Ikpong reportedly said: “Why can't I marry myself?” Na your body? As an independent lady, feminist and influencer, I decided to organise my wedding to show young ladies that they don’t need any man to survive”.  She said she had the support of her family as her five year-old brother, Etuk Ikpong,  gladly accepted the N500 br...
